SISTERS
OF
SORROW
There
can be no more permanent
symbol of bereavement
than the funerary
statue. These angels and
classical figures were
an important art form in
the nineteenth century.
Although the people
commemorated by these
monuments are forgotten
today, and although the
survivors who mourned
them are themselves long
gone, the statues stand
guard... frozen marble
witnesses to the lives
lived and the grief of
those left behind.
